Diversity is any dimension that can be used to differentiate groups and people

Diversity is about celebrating and empowering people by appreciating what makes them unique, in terms of ethnicity, (dis) ability, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, and religion. Diversity allows for the acceptance of these differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. It gives us the rich dimensions within each individual and tradition, and places value on diversity in the community and in the workplaces.

Inclusion is an effort and practice in which different backgrounds are culturally and socially accepted

Successful inclusion happens when all people and individuals feel safe, respected, valued, and have a sense of belonging. Real and authentic inclusion enriches the lives of everyone. Inclusion changes the entire system for the better, and provides access to equal resources and opportunities.

Everyone has the right to feel safe and respected, and is able to show-up with their authentic identities. To create an inclusive culture is to start with inclusive behaviors. An inclusive environment can only be built by the collective fostering of behaviors that bring people together.

Equity allows all individuals access to the same treatment, opportunity, and resources

Together, equity, diversity and inclusion foster efficient relationships built on trust and thoughtful collaboration. Trust is essential to cultivate inclusive environments and make others feel safe to bring their authentic identities into any space. Genuine interactions will lead to a sense of community that will contribute to a sense of belonging.

Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity require continuous efforts. While acknowledging the challenges everyone is facing from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, civil unrest following the killing of George Floyd, and violent attacks on Asians, and loss of jobs and loved ones, we can work towards building-up one another and our communities to make a lasting positive difference for generations.
